Recipe for Perfect Mashed Potatoes

– 2 lbs of Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and quartered

– 1/2 cup of unsalted butter

– 1 cup of heavy cream or whole milk

– Salt and pepper to taste

– Fresh chives or parsley (optional, for garnish)

Place the potatoes in a large pot and cover them with cold water. Add a tablespoon of salt to the water. Bring to a boil over medium-high heat and cook until the potatoes are tender (about 15-20 minutes).

Drain the potatoes thoroughly and return them to the pot. Place the pot back on the heat for a few moments to evaporate any excess water, ensuring the potatoes are dry.

Remove from heat and mash the potatoes using a potato masher or ricer for a smooth texture.

In a separate saucepan, heat the butter and cream until the butter is melted and the mixture is warm (don’t let it boil). Pour over the mashed potatoes and mix until creamy.

Season with salt and pepper, adjusting to taste. Mix until everything is well incorporated and the desired consistency is reached.

Transfer to a serving bowl, garnish with fresh chives or parsley if using, and serve hot.
