Ingredients
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 garlic cloves, minced
- 1 lb lean ground beef
- 1 tsp dried oregano
- 1 tsp dried basil
- ½ tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
- Salt & black pepper to taste
- 2 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 (28 oz) can crushed tomatoes
- 3 cups beef broth
- 8 oz dry spaghetti (break in half)
- ½ cup grated Parmesan
- Fresh parsley or basil for garnish
Instructions
- Sauté aromatics: Heat olive oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add chopped onion and cook until translucent, about 3–4 minutes. Stir in garlic and cook 1 minute more.
- Brown the beef: Add ground beef to the pot and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed. Season with oregano, basil, red pepper flakes, salt, and pepper.
- Build the sauce: Stir in tomato paste and cook for 1 minute. Add crushed tomatoes and beef broth, bringing everything to a simmer.
- Add pasta: Stir in dry spaghetti. Push noodles down to submerge them. Cover and simmer for 12–15 minutes, stirring occasionally, until pasta is cooked and sauce has thickened.
- Finish & serve: Stir in grated Parmesan. Taste and adjust seasoning. Serve hot with extra cheese and fresh herbs on top.
